COMPOUND SENTENCE

A compound sentence has at least twoor more independent clauses. An independent clause (unlike a dependent clause) can stand alone as a sentence.

Conjunction and Punctuation in Compound Sentence. In a compound sentence, the two clauses are joined using:

Ø  Coordinate Conjunction  : This coordinate conjuction that can  be used as like; for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.

Example :

-          He didn’t come last night, for he fell asleep.

-          Vina and Amel wake up at 5:00 am, and they go to school at 6:30 am.

Ø  A semicolon : Semicolon itself can be used to connet two independent clause that interconnected become one sentence.

Example :

-         It’s mine; it’s not yours.

-         Diana looked panic; she’s afraid she run out of words to say to interviewers.

Ø  Conjunctive Adverb : adverbial conjunction is word that has function as adverb and conjunction.Usually semicolon and comma used in this conjunction. The conjunctive adverb are furthermore, however, otherwise, therefore, dan finally.

Example :

-        Both gold and green kiwifruits are widely cultivated in New Zealand; furthermore, they’re distributed to our country.

-        Natural resources of Indonesia spread from Sabang to marauke; however, they’re not utilized properly.

-        Yulia drinks fresh milk and does exercise regularly; therefore, her bones are dense and strong.
