Parallelism is The meaning of Parallelism is sentence elements that have a same n  function using construction or form grammatical that same also. Sentence elements include word, phrase, and clause. Using Parallelism structure in a sentence will make our writing more clear and interesting to read.

·      Function of Parallelism

The use of parallel structures in speech or writing allows speaker and writer to maintain a consistency within their work and create a balanced flow ideas. Moreover, it can be employed as a tool for persuasion as well because of the repetition it uses.

·      The elements include:

Ø  Words,

Ø  Phrares,

Ø  Clauses,

Ø  Adjective,

Ø  Noun,

Ø  Adverb, etc.

·      Parallel structure rules:

1.     Parallelism is in elements that joined by conjunction coordinate (and, or, etc.)

Example:

ü  While Mario was sleeping, his bag and its contents disappeared.

ü  The air force base may be in the north, the south, the west, and the east.

ü  The show will be held in Bandung, Jakarta, Semarang, and Yogyakarta.

2.    Parallelism is in elements that joined by conjunction correlative

ü He can drive not only a car but also a helicopter.

ü This book is not for you but for your cousin.

The Impact of Television Viewing for the Children

            Television is something that can amuse the people. All people can choose one of entertainments that they are interesting in, because the aim of entertainment is to make people can refresh their exhaustion from their business. Mostly, all people like watching television because it is one of the famous and common daily routines of all time. They can get any kinds of information from it but it is not only for the adult or engineer but also the children. They must keep what program they watch in order to protect themselves from the side effects. Although all people can be easy to get any kinds of information and entertainments from the positive effect, they also must be careful about the negative effect of it especially on the children.

            The first, TV programs can develop their think when they are viewing TV. The program that good for the children must be choosen by the parents because the parents must give limit to them to wacth at home when the children spend thier time. But, according to some people that TV programs reduce the quality of real life.  In particular, side effect of television is that it affects the development of thinking process especially to children. This is because, the viewing of unsuitable programs for long periods can influence their idea of life and behavior as pictured by the television programs (Sharif 1999). This is bad things to children because it can influence the children’s attitude, idea and belief because sometime also the children interest to imitate what the television showing.

            The secondly, TV sometimes influence children’s behavior whether it is education or entertaiment because children can imitate what things that is good for them. According to Matthews and Ellis (1985) there is strong link between TV violence and children aggresive behavior of television program included violence. Usually, this violence showing in cartoonts film that contain the significant of violence scenes. It make the children be agrresive because they learn from what they watched and television has unsuitable program to the children and it has contribution to children’s knowledge of general behavior (Sharif 1999)..

The Third, the children can get any kinds of information but the parents must give them more attention. Besides it, we know that there are many negative effect of television viewing make the children difficult  to concentrate on their activiy as like when they work less on their homework and exercise. They lose sleep because of TV and they cannot manage time to their stduy because in their brain just thinking about television and also the program of it.

Lastly, Usually when the pople have free time wacth television, because it is one of the intertaiment but viewing TV also influence healthy because it is unhealthy lifestyle. Moreover, communication among family members will also be difficult when some families eat their meals while watching television to spent time in front of television, it can influence their which can cause obesity and related diseases (Rutherford 2002). So, it distrubs the people’s body.

As a conclusion, watching television has many side effects that is negative and positive effect. We have to be avoided. These side effects cause the development thinking process, a time-wasting activity and unhealthy lifestyle. So, we should be avoided the effect of the television and manage time while we wacth it. Therefore, I believe that television has more negative effect and positive effect for our life.

Adopting a Pet

Owning a pet from the pound or Animal Rescue League has many advantages. First of all, a child feels good about helping an abandoned or abused animal and giving it a whole new life. Besides, if the animals from the pound aren’t adopted right away, they might be put to sleep. Having a pet also means lots of responsibilities. A child has to feed, clean up after, brush, and exercise the pet.

Another great advantage of having a pet from the pound is the price of these cute and cuddly animals. Pets from the pound cost only a few dollars while pets at a fancy pet store can cost hundreds of dollars.

Once you adopt a pet from the Animal Rescue League, it will quickly become a part of your family. If you are thinking of adopting a pet, you might consider choosing a dog or a cat. Dogs and cats can bring lots of happy times to a family, and they can be excellent companions for a person who lives alone or someone who has lost a loved one. Dogs are also a wonderful source of protection. Cats are funny, and they may help to calm people down when they are sad or mad.

Please consider adopting an animal. If you remember all of the advantages of adopting a pet from the pound, you might find the bird, mouse, hamster, dog, or cat of your choice.

A complex sentence is a sentence with an independent clause and at least one dependent clause. The dependent clause is introduced by either a subordinate conjunction (such as although, while, or because) or a relative pronoun (such as who or which).

Ø  Simple                   :My friend invited me to a party. I do not want to go.

Ø  Compound            :My friend invited me to a party, but I do not want to go.

Ø  Complex               :Although my friend invited me to a party, I do not want to go.

A complex sentence is very different from a simple sentence or a compound sentence because it makes clear which ideas are most important.

2.      When he was younger, Mike had many dogs.

3.      Many people enjoyed the movie; however, William did not.

Subordinating Conjunctions:

TIME                                 : after, before, when, while, since, until.

CAUSE & EFFECT              : because,  since,  now that, as, in order that, so.

OPPOSITION                    : although, though, even though, whereas, while.

CONDITION                     : if, unless, only if, whether or not, even if, in case (that)

RELATIVE PRONOUNS    : who, whoever, whom, whomever, which ,whichever, that.
